AbstractThe SWERA project is an international project financed by GEF/UNEP which aims at providing a consistent and easily accessible database to increase confidence levels of investors and influence decision centers to foster the insertion of renewable energies on the energy matrix of selected countries. Solar energy resource maps are generated for Brazil and South America using the radiative transfer model BRASIL-SR. This paper presents the methodology developed to produce the solar maps and discuss the solar maps obtained for the year 2000.
